THE MOROCCO Coin Pendant
$144.00
The MOROCCO Coin Pendant is handcrafted based on an authentic antique Moroccan coin with precious metals using the traditional lost-wax casting technique. The coin features beautifully rendered designs and islamic text reading Maroc and Empire Cherifien. The coin was minted in France in 1947 under the reign of Mohammed V during the time of French rule in Morocco. It features the numbers 1366, which is equivalent to the year of 1947 in the Islamic Calendar. It was in this year that Mohammed V, a political leader often at odds with French colonialists delivered a speech in support of Moroccan independence. Him and his family were exiled in 1953, but returned in 1956 after successfully negotiating the nation's independence from France. He took the title of King in 1957.
