THE AKSUM Ethiopian Coin II dates back to the 5th century and is one of a group of three of the most rare and ancient coins in our collection. It features a roughly preserved surface with the stamp of a cross from ancient times surrounded by ancient text. The back features the faint outline of the crowned King Ebana holding a cruciform sceptre. The AKSUM Ethiopian Coin II dates back to the 440-470 AD during the reign of King Ebana. Ancient coins from Aksum are some of the earliest depictions of the cross being used as a symbol of Christianity in the world. Handmade using the ancient lost wax casting method.
