THE WEST African Coin Necklace is handcrafted based on an authentic French West African coin. It features a gazelle surrounded by corn plants on one side and "Taku” sawfish, a symbol of prosperity, on the other. To this date the eight independent states in West Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo share the same currency. They gained independence from France in 1960.
