THE MALDIVES Conch Coin Necklace is handcrafted based on an authentic vintage Maldivian coin. The vintage design features a conch relief. In the olden days, when the Chief of the Island had an important announcement to make, the conch shell was blown to inform the islanders of a mass gathering. The loud, ocean-like sound of the conch shell echoes throughout the island. Presently, the blowing of the conch shell is a ceremonial tradition extended to arriving guests to the country, as a token of a Maldivian welcome. Handmade with fine metals using the traditional lost-wax casting technique.
