THE AKSUM Ethiopian Coin III dates back to the 5th century and is one of a group of three of the most rare and ancient coins in our collection. It is the largest of our ancient rare coins and features the roughly preserved bust of the crowned King Ebana holding whisk, flanked by wheat stalks, within a dotted circle. Ancient text surrounds the edges of the coin. The reverse of the coin features the king wearing a draped head cloth again holding whisk, flanked by wheat stalks, within a dotted circle, and surrounded by ancient lettering. The AKSUM Ethiopian Coin III dates back to the 440-470 AD. Ancient coins from Aksum are some of the earliest depictions of the cross being used as a symbol of Christianity in the world. Handmade using the ancient lost wax casting method.
