She was a gifted negotiator who diffused political crises during her role as Ambassador to the Portuguese Empire. Njinga became Queen of Ndongo upon the death of her father and brother in 1624 and Matamba in 1631. The two Kingdoms are found in the region of modern-day Angola. Queen Nzinga is recognized as a powerful military leader, wise negotiator & politician, thwarting many colonial advances during her reign.
