THE BAULE Sun Cufflinks

$159.00
THE BAULE Sun Stud Cufflinks feature delicate detailing carefully crafted to mimic the filigree like texture of original Baule bead work. The Baule people are a group indigenous to Western Africa known for their rich brass and gold smithing culture. Each bead is named after a common or proverbial object, such as "bamboo door", "setting sun," or "sun and moon" and there is a saying attached to each name. Circular beads, like this design, have special significance in Baule culture and are sometimes given to a bride’s family as a symbol of the groom’s intent to marry.
